Fedor wants to ride wave at Getafe

After six years on the sidelines at Valencia, Nicolas Fedor is looking to capitalise on the dream start he has made with his new club Getafe. The Venezuela striker, who made just two first-team appearances for Los Che, scored in his debut appearance for the Madrid side to beat Real Mallorca 2-1 away on Wednesday. It is a win that put Getafe in a good position to reach the Copa del Rey semi-final.

Fedor, 24, now wants to show his performance was no fluke when they host Atletico Madrid in the Primera Liga tonight. "We had a great game with a positive result in a very difficult situation," he told Marca. "I was fortunate to score. It's just one more stone on the road and I have come to put in my best efforts. I was lucky to get the goal but I will never turn down an opportunity to score." Fedor said he was grateful to have moved on from Valencia earlier this week on a four-and-a-half-year deal. "I consider myself a worker. I try to do what the coach asks me to bring and within that I carry a lot of pressure as I clearly need to try to score goals," he said.

"I am very grateful to the club for the interest in me. I'm here and I just want to make things right and pay them back. "The squad have opened doors for me. The players are young, they have a very good relationship between them all. That helped me to adapt." Getafe will be keen to carry their cup form into the league after suffering back-to-back Primera Liga defeats against Sporting Gijon and Malaga.

Michel's side sit eighth in the table and aim to get their bid for European qualification back on track. Atletico, meanwhile, have had an excellent start to 2010 in the league, picking up three consecutive Primera Liga wins following the winter break. * With agencies Getafe v Atletico, KO 10pm, Aljazeera Sport +2
