DJ Martin Garrix on visiting the Abu Dhabi GP, his friendship with Max Verstappen, and getting the 'Formula One taste'

The Dutchman was impressed with what he saw as he watched practice on Friday from the Red Bull Racing pit garage.

International superstar DJ Martin Garrix has the "Formula One taste" after visiting the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Friday.

The 21-year-old was at Yas Marina Circuit during practice to meet up with his friend. Max Verstappen, the Red Bull Racing driver.

Garrix, who performed at the Du Forum on Friday night, told The National during an interview at the TAG Heuer lounge on Yas Marina, that he was impressed with what he had seen.

"It is really cool," he said. "But there is a whole team behind everything and they are so precise. It is really inspiring to see. The space itself, it looks like a spaceship and I was really impressed.

"I got the Formula One taste and it has been great."

Garrix and Verstappen, 20, have known each other for a number of years and stayed in touch as their respective careers blossomed.

Of his friendship with the Red Bull driver, who has won triumphed three times in F1 and is the youngest driver to win a race at 18 years and 228 days, Garrix said it had begun at a prize-giving ceremony.

"I presented him an award four or five years ago," he recalled. "It was before he had the Formula One drive. It was the talent of the year in the biggest sports gala in the Netherlands.

"I remember meeting him and thinking I could connect with this guy because he is also young and also in the world of craziness and he is also travelling a lot for his work, and of course he is super successful.

"So we had some really good chats and talks and we could connect really well on a personal level."

Garrix watched Verstappen from the Red Bull garage during practice, and he said: "They gave me a headset so I could hear what they were talking about in testing and it was really cool."

Garrix was heading to Liverpool, England, on Saturday night for a show, but said he had enjoyed the experience, and believed there was a lot of things comparable from the world of F1 to music.

"Every small detail matters and it is the same with music production," he said. "When you make a song you want every small detail to be right and that is what gives the best result and it is the same with cars."
