Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians played out the first ever double Super Over in IPL history. And it was Punjab who had a win next to their name after the match in Dubai went well beyond normal time on Sunday. After both sides had finished tied on 176-6 after their 20 overs, Jasprit Bumrah appeared to have left Mumbai on the brink of victory when he restricted the Kings XI to just five from the first Super Over. However, Mohammed Shami bowled beautifully to keep Mumbai down to five, tying the scores again. Chris Jordan stepped up to deliver the second super over for the Kings XI and conceded 11, including two wides. But when Chris Gayle smashed Trent Boult for six with the first ball the Kings XI were on their way to sealing a dramatic victory, reaching 12 with two balls to spare. Kings XI captain KL Rahul, who played a match-defining knock of 77, lauded fast bowler Shami for keeping his team in the contest. "You can never prepare for Super Overs. No team does. So you have to trust your bowler's gut. You trust your bowler, and let them believe their instinct and gut. He [Shami] was very clear he wanted to go six yorkers. He has been phenomenal, and keeps getting better every game," Rahul said. It took the number of Super Overs in the IPL on Sunday to three after Kolkata Knight Riders, who won with only three runs needed, and Sunrisers Hyderabad were also involved in a tied contest.
