Virat Kohli – 7. Did not score a boundary until the 19th over, and even then it was via the edge. He still shared in a 100-run stand in just over seven overs with De Villiers, though. Sportzpics for BCCI

AB de Villiers – 9. Cracked his first scoring shot for four off the stumps at the other end. Hit his 23rd ball into the top tier to reach 50. Ended unbeaten on 73 off 33. Sportzpics for BCCI

Chris Morris – 8. Started the defence in fine fashion, then profited from the good work of his spinners as he ended with two for 17 by the end. Held a smart catch, too. Sportzpics for BCCI

Washington Sundar – 9. Mounting a fair case for being considered the player of the tournament so far. Two for 20, with boundaries this small, was spellbinding. Sportzpics for BCCI

Shivam Dube – 5. The ghost at the party as he was not called on with either bat or ball. Scarcely spotted in the field, either. Sportzpics for BCCI

Isuru Udana – 7. A catch and a vital run out, before being brought on to bowl his first over – and in that he got Russell’s wicket, too. Sportzpics for BCCI

Navdeep Saini – 8. Began the rout when he knocked out Banton’s off stump. He ended with one for 17 off three overs. Sportzpics for BCCI

Yuzvendra Chahal. 9.5. One for 12. Off four overs. In Sharjah. When the opposition were chasing 195. Remarkable stuff from a leg-spinner at the top of his game. Sportzpics for BCCI

Mohammed Siraj – 7. Nipped in with the wicket of Tripathi, and held the catch that dismissed Russell, too. Sportzpics for BCCI

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS RATINGS: Tom Banton – 5. Bowled for eight by Saini on a nervy debut, after coming in for Sunil Narine. He improved Kolkata’s fielding markedly, though. Sportzpics for BCCI

Shubman Gill – 6. Dropped by Finch on 30, but could not make the most of his fortune as he was run out by Udana just four runs later. Sportzpics for BCCI

Nitish Rana – 4. Scoreboard pressure led him to hoick across the line and miss a straight one from Sundar when on nine. Sportzpics for BCCI

Eoin Morgan – 3. A very rare shocker for the England captain, as he was asphyxiated by the spin duo Sundar and Chahal. Sportzpics for BCCI

Dinesh Karthik – 3. Unable to repeat his man of the match display of a few days earlier in Abu Dhabi as he dragged on from Chahal. Sportzpics for BCCI

Andre Russell – 4. Even shoulders as broad as his could not carry the weight of this run chase. Suffered at the hands of De Villiers with the ball, too. Sportzpics for BCCI

Rahul Tripathi – 6. Shuffled back down the order to accommodate debutant Banton opening, and he could do nothing to affect the game by the time he made it to the crease. Sportzpics for BCCI

Pat Cummins – 6. Used all his nous to temper the scoring rate in the power-play, but he also benefitted from missing out on bowling in the slog overs. Sportzpics for BCCI

Kamlesh Nagarkoti – 7. It took him till his 21st ball to be hit for a boundary – then De Villiers took his last four balls for 16. Sportzpics for BCCI

Prasidh Krishna – 6. Found it torrid going, but at least he had some joy when he zeroed a yorker through Finch. Sportzpics for BCCI

Varun Chakravarthy – 8. Four overs for 25 in at innings when everyone else was being battered was quite a feat. Sportzpics for BCCI

An AB de Villiers masterclass plus an outstanding all-round bowling display took Royal Challengers Bangalore to a crushing 82-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah.

The South African batsman set the platform for the demolition with a brutal innings worth 73 not out from 33 balls.

He hit 63 of those from 22 balls within the last five overs, as Bangalore amassed 194-2 from their 20 overs.

The task was always likely to be a tough one from that position for Kolkata, who had left out Sunil Narine after he was reported for a suspect bowling action last time out.

If possible, the performance of Bangalore’s spin duo even exceeded that of their teammate De Villiers.

Bowling seven overs in tandem in the middle overs, Washington Sundar and Yuzvendra Chahal strangled the life out of the chase.

Sundar ended with 2-20 from his four overs of off-spin, while Chahal’s leg-spin brought him one for 12 – which was a remarkable return given the high scoring in Sharjah so far in this competition.
