AND that concludes the #IPLAuction 2024! 🔨
The 10 teams are ready for the upcoming #IPL season 😎
And it's a wrap
The IPL 2024 player auction concludes in Dubai. What a memorable day as we witnessed two record auction bids, both for Australia's World Cup winners.
It what has become a clear trend, mini-auctions throw up record deals much more than regular auctions.
A total of 72 players were snapped up today. Expect more deals to be completed later on, as trades and player availability alter plans in the coming months.
Rilee Russouw goes to Punjab
South African batsman Russouw was expected to remain on the radar of the teams. He eventually went to Punjab for 80m rupees.
Spencer Johnson hits jackpot
The Australian left-arm quick is the new pace sensation in white-ball cricket. Famously bowled a stunning spell of 3-1 in 20 balls in The Hundred. Snapped up for a cool 100 million rupees ($1.2 million) to Gujarat, who used up half their remining purse on him.
No takers for Kiwis
New Zealand players are not eliciting much interest. International regulars like Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Finn Allen, Jimmy Neesham and Kyle Jamieson have gone unsold.
Boucher says Mumbai Indians tried to keep emotions out of captaincy change
Mumbai Indians coach Mark Boucher said the change of captaincy was a purely cricket decision and the team made the transition the best way it could.
In a shock move before the auction, Mumbai brought Hardik Pandya back from Gujarat Titans, giving him the captaincy and moving away from an established name like Rohit Sharma.
"It was simply a case of transition and we handled it the best way possible. We kept all emotions out of it," Boucher said.
When asked if he was aware of any resentment among players at the way the captaincy was taken away from Rohit, Boucher said he does not follow social media grapevine.
Where teams stand
The 10 set of players have been through the bidding process and now is the time for the accelerated auction. Interesting to see that teams like Gujarat Titans (214 million rupees) and Delhi Capitals (168 million rupees) have a significant sum remaining in their purse. Punjab Kings too have enough (131m rupees) to spend.
A lot of big international names will come up in the accelerated bidding phase next, so expect these three to go hard.

Welcome home, Sameer! 🦁 pic.twitter.com/kwbPyglLPe
Sameer Rizvi - uncapped player and millionaire
This is what the IPL does. Uncapped power hitter Sameer Rizvi had a memorable UPT20 League. That has seen him land an 84 million rupees contract with Chennai, making him a millionaire.
Uncapped star
Rajasthan Royals have landed local power hitter Shubham Dubey for 58 million rupees. He bats lower in the order, and has been in impressive form for Vidarbha. Teams see him as a useful impact player.

KKR happy to land Starc
Kolkata Knight Riders managing director Venky Mysore says he is happy to acquire the services of Mitchell Starc, even if it cost his team an IPL record price of $3 million.
"He was a preferred player in that skillset. We are just thankful to have him. We could have easily lost out to Gujarat," Mysore said.
By the way, when the IPL started in 2008, the entire auction purse of a team was less than what Starc alone will now get.
For the biggest bid in #IPLAuction, ₹2475 L, Mitch Starc is a Knight Rider! 💜

Record day in Dubai
Australia quick Mitchell Starc has now overtaken his captain Pat Cummins as the most expensive player in IPL history. Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders are going all out for the pacer, who is returning to the league after eight years. A world class left-arm quick, and a guaranteed performer in T20s.
Starc eventually goes to Kolkata for a record 247.5 million rupees ($3 million). Blockbuster auction for Aussie players
Rishabh Pant bidding for Mitchell Starc
Australian quick Mitchell Starc, as expected, is red-hot property in the auction. His price has zoomed past 100 million rupees, with all teams wanting him. An almost guaranteed performer in T20s, so no wonder.
Alzarri Joseph in the spotlight
West Indies quick Alzarri Joseph has become hot property. A proven performer in T20s, bowls quick and can reverse as well. He goes to Royal Challengers Bangalore for 115m rupees ($1.3m).
Pat Cummins' salary is 6000 USD per ball in the IPL.
