Manchester City Football Club and the UAE FA today confirmed that a friendly match will take place between the national team and City at Zayed Sports City on Thursday Nov 12. The English Premier League club, owned by Sheikh Mansour, also signed an agreement to use an international standard football pitch at Emirates Palace hotel, due to be completed in October, as their annual winter training base. Garry Cook, the club's chief executive, said: "Our kinship with Abu Dhabi is well documented and while we are a big football club in the world of the Premier League and have a great history in English football, it is important for us to connect with otherr communities. "Bringing our football club to the people is something we have never done and it makes a lot of sense for us to do it firstly in Abu Dhabi," he added. During a press conference today three new signings were paraded, Argentine striker Carlos Tevez, Paraguayan international striker Roque Santa Cruz and England midfielder Gareth Barry. Manchester City manager Mark Hughes also confirmed the club had made a bid for Chelsea and England captain John Terry but that it had been turned down. He said they would now have to wait to see whether they would be able to bring in the centre-half before the transfer window closes at the end of August. emegson@thenational.ae
