Buzzword is the word

Ahmed Ajtebi steered Godolphin's two-year-old, Buzzword, to victory in the Group Three Prix la Rochette on Sunday, earning the colt a shot in a Group One race on Arc day. The Dubai racing operation is also celebrating this week after its American arm recorded Godolphin's 150th Group One success when Pyro triumphed in the Forego Stakes at Saratoga. The four year old took the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai-founded yard's top-level victories in 2009 to four and rounded off a run of results started when Balanchine won the Epsom Oaks in 1994. In France, Ajtebi was on the back of Buzzword after first jockey, Frankie Dettori, opted for the ride on Dubai Sheema Classic winner, Eastern Anthem, in the Group One Preis von Baden in Germany. The Emirati rider took an early lead over the field of seven at Longchamp before coasting in second when Christophe Lemaire overtook on Eightfold Path. Biding his time, Ajtebi sent Buzzword for home at the two furlong pole with the Pivotal colt running on strongly to finish a length clear of runner-up, Siyouni. Eightfold Path was third. Emirates Dream, also for Godolphin, ran in fourth for the majority of the seven-furlong contest, dropping back to fifth two furlongs from home, while Godolphin France runners, Berbegel and Colonial, had little impact finishing fifth and sixth. "Buzzword ran very well and showed a good turn of foot," said trainer, Saeed bin Suroor. "I was pleased with him and we are considering returning to Longchamp on Arc day for the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere Grand Criterium." Eastern Anthem's return to form continued in Baden Baden on Sunday with a second behind Getaway. Dettori settled him at the rear for the 1m 4f challenge and when he made his move the Melbourne Cup hopeful stayed well, beaten by three lengths by the winner, who had also finished in front of him when the pair were third and second behind Weiner Walzer in the Group One Rheinland-Pokal last month. Eastern Anthem was half-a-length in front of Mick Channon's Youmzain, the mount of comeback jockey, Kieren Fallon, who is still likely to contest the Arc in October. "Eastern Anthem has run a cracking race, showing improved form," said Diana Cooper, representing Godolphin in Germany. "He is a lovely, consistent Group One performer who was beaten by a better horse."
