Blackpool win high-scoring tie but still under water

EPL wrap: Adam lifts Blackpool to 4-3 win over Bolton Wanderers but stay third from the bottom of the table.

BLACKPOOL // Blackpool kept their hopes of English Premier League survival alive with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Bolton Wanderers at Bloomfield Road.

Charlie Adam powered home the winner midway through the second half after the northern English rivals had traded five goals in a pulsating opening 45 minutes.

Kevin Davies put Bolton ahead after six minutes before DJ Campbell equalised and Jason Puncheon gave Blackpool the lead. Matthew Taylor made it 2-2 and then Campbell netted his second goal on the strike of half-time to send the home side into the break with a 3-2 advantage.

Daniel Sturridge leveled again for Bolton, but Adam had the final say.

The result left Blackpool third from bottom of the table on 39 points with one game to play. Their nearest rivals, Birmingham City in 17th place, play their penultimate game of the campaign tomorrow against Fulham.

Sunderland 1 // Wolves 3

Mick McCarthy, the Wolves manager, was taking nothing for granted after seeing his side ease towards safety at Sunderland.

McCarthy knows Wolves control their own destiny when they play Blackburn at home next week.

“It’s the same three points as last week,” he said. “I said it would go to May 22 and it’s going there, isn’t it? If we win our game, then nobody can do anything about it.”

West Brom 1 // Everton 0

Youssouf Mulumbu boosted West Brom’s hopes of finishing as the midlands’ highest-placed club in the Premier League with a first-half winner against 10-man Everton.

The midfielder scored his seventh goal of the campaign after just 10 minutes and Everton had the substitute Diniyar Bilyaletdinov sent off late.

Roy Hodgson’s side are now four points clear of local rivals Aston Villa, who visit Arsenal today.
