Al Zarooni confident in Buzzword

Buzzword makes his fourth Classic appearance in the Group One 141st Deutsches Derby in Hamburg today. The three-year-old Godolphin colt remains at a mile-and-a-half after taking third over the same distance in the Group Two King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 18. He was eighth behind Workforce in the Group One Investec Derby, also over a mile-and-a- half, at Epsom Downs on June 5 and stayed on strongly to come home fourth over a mile in the Group One Poule d'Essai des Poulains, the French 2,000 Guineas, at Longchamp on May 16.

Buzzword finished unplaced in the mile Group One StanJames.com 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 1. He ended his juvenile campaign with a pair of fifth places in the mile Grade Two Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita, in California; and the seven-furlong Group One Jumeirah Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket. Buzzword posted a pair of excellent efforts over seven furlongs at Longchamp, France, last term, taking third in the Group One Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at the start of October and winning the Group Three Prix la Rochette in September.

Mahmood al Zarooni, the trainer who won the German 2,000 Guineas, the Mehl Mulhens-Rennen, with Frozen Power, commented: "Buzzword is very well at the moment and he has improved since Royal Ascot. "He looks like a proper middle-distance horse now. He doesn't have the same turn of foot that he showed earlier in his career but he stays well in his races. "I think that he goes to Germany with a good chance and I am hopeful that he will be there at the finish."

Buzzword, with Royston Ffrench on board, takes on 19 rivals in the 141st Deutsches Derby including the King Edward VII Stakes victor Monterosso. * Agencies
