Carlos Tenorio has agreed to a two-year deal with Al Nasr despite flying out of Dubai mid-way through the negotiations without informing the club. The Ecuador striker left Dubai early on Sunday morning after disagreements over payment and the length of his contract. The 30-year-old, a free agent after spending five seasons with Al Sadd in Qatar, wanted a one-year contract, but the club were looking for a longer commitment.
Tenorio, however, got back in touch with the club and agreed to a contract, becoming Nasr's 10th signing of the pre-season. The Brigadiers had been pursuing Tenorio for the past two months and the chairman of the club's technical committee, Humaid al Tayer, travelled to watch Ecuador's World Cup qualifier in Peru earlier this month. Tenorio's stunning goal in Ecuador's 2-1 win convinced al Tayer he was the man to lead the club's attack and they immediately made an offer. The striker welcomed the interest, but asked for time to complete his international duties. He finally arrived in Dubai on Wednesday and had a medical the next day.
But then, according to the club, his agent started making fresh demands. As the negotiations stalled Tenorio flew out of Dubai, but later got back in touch with the club and agreed to the contract, which guarantees the player €1.2million (Dh 6.1m) per season. The UAE youth team goalkeeper Yousef Abdulrahman has signed a five-year contract for an undisclosed fee with Al Ain. Abdulrahman, 20, will miss the start of the Pro League season as he will be on national duty at the Fifa Youth World Cup in Egypt from Sept 24 to Oct 16.
He is expected to take up the No 1 role for the Purples as the nine-time league champions are to lose their veteran goalkeeper Mutaz Abdulla, 34, who is moving to Al Wahda when his contract expires next month. Al Ain's other goalkeeper, Waleed Salem, hardly featured last season because of a back injury. "I am really fortunate to play for Al Ain," said Abdulrahman after completing the move from the first division club Al Ittihad of Kalba.
