SHENYANG // The substitute striker Dong Fangzhuo scored a late equaliser to give host China a 1-1 draw against 10-man New Zealand. Dong's 88th-minute header went over the New Zealand goalkeeper Jacob Spoonley and into the far post to the delight of the partisan home crowd at the near 60,000-capacity Shenyang Olympic Stadium. The Kiwi midfielder Jeremy Brockie had opened the scoring for New Zealand with a right-foot shot from inside the area in the 53rd minute, latching on to Craig Henderson's pass over the Chinese defence. New Zealand were reduced to ten men after Steven Old was dismissed for a handball that prompted his second yellow card in the 39th minute.
