Hamas and US officials raised hopes that negotiations in Doha and Cairo over recent months may bring the 14-month conflict in Gaza to a ceasefire.

Hamas said progress in the Doha talks was “serious and positive”, indicating that a ceasefire and hostage return deal may be possible.

Sources briefed on the negotiations told The National that a midlevel team from Israel's spy agency Mossad and its domestic security agency Shin Bet are in Doha working out details of a possible deal.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, launched a drone delivery service in the emirate on Tuesday.

Keeta Drone is a subsidiary of Chinese technology and retail company Meituan. It has been awarded a licence by the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority to deliver food and medicine across Dubai Silicon Oasis during the first phase of the project.

Sheikh Hamdan became the first person to make an order through the platform from the Rochester Institute of Technology-Dubai, one of the landing points within DSO’s drone delivery network.

Aleppo is coming back to life just two weeks after it was overrun by Syria's rebels, marking the start of a campaign that brought down the Assad regime.

The city fell to the rebels led by Hayat Tahrir Al Sham at the end of November.

The National visited merchants, restaurants and shops in Syria’s second city to find a revived community.
