Khalid Al Ameri's opinion article We all need to stand up when we see harassment (November 11) was interesting. However, my brothers and I attended single sex schools, but none of us disrespect the opposite sex.
I think much of the problem in the UAE stems from the fact that the largest percentage of the expatriate population is from countries where harassment of women is common. I rarely go out on Fridays, because I am fed up with being stared at and not in a respectful way at all.

My wife is a victim of harassment. It’s everywhere. However, the UAE is still safe for women compared to many other countries.

Sexual harassment has to stop. I have witnessed incidents in places such as Mamzar and Ajman Corniche, but then there are some girls who respond to those guys, which makes them confident enough to do the same with other women.

Photos of UAE’s fascinating past
The photographs by Noor Ali Rashid are fantastic (Nation's story, one image at a time, November 10). I'm sure a lot of people would love to see the exhibition in Abu Dhabi. The past is fascinating and black-and-white pictures capture the soul unlike colour.

Education can curb ignorance
I understand that the issue of sexually transmitted diseases is hardly discussed in this country because of the sensitivity and stigma attached to contracting an STD (It's time for an uncomfortable conversation ... November 10). It's human nature. So educate people to prevent ignorance over treatment and stigma.

Let’s try to keep traditions alive
We must try to keep all cultures alive (Tattooed women of Kobani, November 9). The world will be very poor if we fail to protect cultures, traditions and languages, because cultural and linguistic diversity is what makes our planet so interesting and wonderful.

UAE is a place to fulfil dreams
I thank Anwar Ahmad for the lovely article At home I loitered, here I work (November 10). I have been living in the UAE since 1994, and I have seen how so many poor people have found a decent livelihood here. It's because of the UAE that they can realise many of their dreams and fulfil wishes of their family members back home.
This is why so many expatriates remember with gratitude leaders like Sheikh Zayed, Sheikh Khalifa and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed. May the Almighty bless these leaders.

Muscat worth a visit, short or not
Regarding your article Rotana Jet adds more flights to Oman to target expats on visa runs (November 11), Muscat is a lovely place to stay overnight. It has beautiful mosques, lovely mountains and beaches.

Corruption is key in India
I applaud prime minister Narendra Modi's move to expand his cabinet (Strategic moves in new Modi cabinet, November 10).
However, Mr Modi has taken a few months to realise that ministries should be strong if he is to achieve his goals. It is not the number of ministers that makes the difference, but a corruption-free governance.
His moves, including the latest one, indicate that the government is committed to developing the country. If the business community in India endorses the new cabinet, it will further indicate that India is on the right path.
