Every season has its signature weather. In colder climates, that means snowstorms in winter that make you want to curl up indoors. In our region, fog denotes the arrival of cooler months and the prospect of more time outside. Just as snowstorms can create transit headaches and dangerous roads, so too does early morning fog. Our cities (and airports and roads) slowly become wrapped in a pillowy blanket of mist. By late morning, most of the fog is gone, burnt off by the sun to return another day.
Given the height of many buildings in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, however, the fog makes for brilliant and eerie photos. Many of us wake inside clouds, temporarily detached from the rest of the world. Given the majesty of these early morning vistas, we are all lured into seeing fog as a benign phenomenon. It is easy to forget its deadly consequences on the road. As with all powerful natural forces, we should respect, embrace and enjoy our foggy mornings.
