Phones in the car

By now, most drivers understands the dangers of using a smartphone behind the wheel of a car. In many places the practice is illegal but that doesn’t stop those who text or check email while switching lanes on the motorway. A new game, called Gauge Your Distraction, highlights just how dangerous and difficult this practice is for drivers of all abilities.

The game is played on your smartphone and forces the player to change lanes in the game at high speeds using the number keys. As you are flying down the road, you have to respond to text messages with one word answers. It might sound easy but it quickly becomes challenging.

For those with experience on the road, the game is little more than a novelty but used by new drivers, it can be an accessible educational tool. Such simulations should be included in the learning curriculum for new drivers so that the reckless practice of using smartphones while driving ends once and for all.
