Abu Dhabi has become a popular destination for the global film industry, from Hollywood to Bollywood. As The National reported yesterday, the filming of the Indian spy thriller Tiger Zinda Hai will start in the capital this month, featuring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, two of Bollywood’s bigger stars. Before that, Abu Dhabi was the stage for the 2014 popular action movie Bang Bang!, which also starred Kaif.

Hosting eagerly awaited movies does bring the world’s attention to the UAE. But it’s much more than that. The production of a film requires a tremendous amount of work and involves a crew with a wide range of skills. For instance, 150 workers will be on site for 100 days to create Tiger Zinda Hai’s main set alone.

In the short term, this creates many jobs. In the long term, it will help the UAE’s film infrastructure to develop. Today we host some of the most popular films tomorrow we could be an entertainment hub where movies are being shot every day of the year.
