National service doesn’t need to end after the military for our committed veterans

Serving one’s country is an honour and a duty for any citizen. Service can (and should) come in many forms, from recruitment into the armed forces to volunteers who help build society. It would be incorrect, however, to think of national service as a temporary part of one’s life or a once-and-done endeavour. Instead, it is a lifelong commitment towards the advancement of society.

A powerful example of this commitment was reported by The National this week. Former members of the national service will be targeted to be staff for ambulances around the country with a focus on the Northern Emirates.

First responders are on the front line of our safety. Given the experience and determination of our national service members, it is an ideal fit to see more veterans working in this industry. The National Ambulance service will offer a free nine-month training course for veterans that will hopefully result in long careers for our servicemen as paramedics.
