Ramadan is approaching and, as The National reported yesterday, the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments is organising a series of lectures to tackle pressing issues. This year, a total of 930 lectures is scheduled to be held throughout the holy month. Many of them will focus on fighting extremist ideas and terrorism, and on the role of tolerance in achieving a peaceful and cohesive society.
These messages are worth spreading beyond lecture halls, so news of the speaker, subject and date should be disseminated as widely as possible across traditional and digital platforms. For example, the calendar of lectures could be made available in print, online or through an app. So too the lectures themselves. Perhaps they could be turned into podcasts as well as online videos. This would probably appeal across the age and gender divide, a key consideration in formulating meaningful messaging in an age of challenges.
