Grateful to the UAE for helping us progress

The UAE has long been known for its charitable work and providing assistance to underdeveloped, as well as developing, countries (Sheikha Fatima hospital in Pakistan helping 500 patients a day, October 9).

Being a Pakistani who considers the UAE her second home, it makes me immensely proud to see the efforts by this country to help my native country progress.

We are very grateful to the rulers and the people of the UAE for their kind efforts in setting up hospitals and medical facilities across the country for the needy.

UAE audience lacks diversity

For an intensely multicultural country such as the UAE, the audiences are surprisingly homogeneous and self-segregating when it comes to the performing arts (UAE may be multicultural but we're not diverse when it comes to music, study finds, October 10). I have noted this many times.

I would love to see not only broader options but also broader appreciation. Perhaps a national media strategy can help.

Tiffany Malnar, Dubai

Trump fans are deluded

I am astonished to see so many Muslims supporting Donald trump (Meet the Muslims who support Donald Trump, October 9).

These supporters are deluded if they think Donald Trump’s values don’t conflict with Islam and that he can restore respect for the country.

Samia Iftekhar, Dubai

I cannot take Mr Trump seriously. I would advise American voters to ignore him.

He is an embarrassment for my country.

Monia Rafique, US

It’s astonishing that so many educated Americans are supporting Mr Trump. Not only is he anti-Muslim, but none of his arguments makes much practical sense. What do his supporters think he would deliver if he becomes president?

Keep record of transactions

It is sad that Chris Spong was conned out of more than Dh26,000 in money and equipment after paying to rent a beachside locker (Dubai resident 'loses thousands in beachside locker scam', September 8). He should have known that it is necessary to get receipts not just for making payments, but for deliveries or any sort of transaction that includes asset transfer or service exchange.

Jehad Makhoul, Lebanon

My cousin owns a studio flat at International City. It was rented to an individual who collected a year’s rent from a prospective tenant and ran away.

He has filed a complaint with the court, although he could neither get anything from the previous tenant nor evict the new one.

Ahmed Buhamad, Dubai

An intelligent move by RTA

After reading the article Dubai licence plate sells for Dh33m (October 10), my view is that auctioning licence plates is a very intelligent move by the RTA. It helps them raise money for a good cause from people who have no dearth of money.

Christina Toebast, Dubai

Does the money from the auction go to charity? I hope it does. Otherwise it’s a ridiculous indulgence.

THE BIO

Family: I have three siblings, one older brother (age 25) and two younger sisters, 20 and 13

Favourite book: Asking for my favourite book has to be one of the hardest questions. However a current favourite would be Sidewalk by Mitchell Duneier

Favourite place to travel to: Any walkable city. I also love nature and wildlife

What do you love eating or cooking: I’m constantly in the kitchen. Ever since I changed the way I eat I enjoy choosing and creating what goes into my body. However, nothing can top home cooked food from my parents.

Favorite place to go in the UAE: A quiet beach.
