I write to you in reference to Saeed Saeed's article Monty Python's Spamalot comes to Dubai Opera (February 2018). Another Monty Python team member, Terry Jones, has left us aged 77. His brilliance created a world of chaos, confusion and humour. Where will we see this again? Our Parliament and politicians will provide most of the entertainment for now, but this political show lacks the humour and brilliance of Britain's "naughty boy".

Deepika Padukone is finally received credit for her work as a humanitarian
I write to you in reference to Emma Day's article 'There is hope': Deepika Padukone honoured with award for her work supporting mental health (January 22). She is such a cool celebrity, I am fully behind her work as a mental health advocate. Padukone is on the right side of history, I am really glad she got that award for her brilliant humanitarian work.

We need better standards for animal welfare across the emirates
With reference to Gillian Duncan's report Sharjah rescuers save sick falcon from animal market (January 25): why can't they just shut this market? In 2020, we should know better.
The government’s plan of looking to the next 50 years should include better animal welfare standards across the emirates and the closure of pet markets and pet shops.
Rachael Ryder, Abu Dhabi
Finally this has been picked up. Thank you to all at The National. All these animals need rescuing and a decent, loving home. Hopefully covering such stories will spread awareness and help the animals there.
Tanya Milbourne, Dubai
Close it down. Rescuers are exhausted, financially and emotionally, from the consequences of this market being allowed to continue without any care for the animals that are sold or dumped.
Ali Cipriano, Dubai
Thank you, The National for making our voices heard. Ameera (the falcon) is doing great now and is on her way to recovery. So are the many cats we picked up the past few months.
Our previous rescue, Blanco, is still suffering from post traumatic stress disorder from the market and has nightmares all night since we picked him up in August. It’s a shame.

Residents are still waiting for the UAE winter to come
I write to you in reference to your article UAE weather: Dubai and Abu Dhabi set for more rain (January 23). This is the first time I have experienced no winter in my 12 years here in the UAE.
