Hopes and prayers for the families of our nation’s heroes

November 30 was a day of great pride for every Emirati, as our nation remembered those who defended our country, making the ultimate sacrifice to defend the UAE and keep its flag fluttering high – heroes who courageously went forth to defend the oppressed and do what’s right.

Commemoration Day fills our hearts with longing but also with gratitude for those Emiratis who kept their promise and sacrificed their lives to ensure people’s safety and peace of mind. Our brave soldiers will live on; their names and sacrifices will forever be proudly told by the history of our nation – where people and leadership are allies in facing adversity and partners in realising the impossible.

Carrying on with our efforts to preserve our country’s accomplishments and ensure a comfortable life for our people is the best gift we can present to our heroes. We honour them by embracing integrity and transparency as a work ethic, where every citizen can play a role in building this nation. We offer our sincerest condolences, thoughts and prayers to our heroes’ families, asking God to grant them patience and solace, to bless those who are no longer with us and spread justice, peace and safety.

Canada’s generosity should be an example to us all

With reference to your story Stateless Syrian on way after six-month Malaysian airport stay (November 27), I have immense respect for Canada for always being humble and humane. I am proud to be Canadian.
