I write in reference to your article Theresa May hits out at Donald Trump's 'go home' remarks (July 15). Well done UK prime minister Theresa May for speaking out against Mr Trump's unpleasantness towards these pioneering Democratic congresswomen. He fully deserves to be reprimanded for telling them to

“go home”. Has he forgotten that America is a country of immigrants? Mr Trump’s own wife, First Lady Melania Trump, was born not in the

US but Slovenia. Mr Trump should choose his words more carefully and refrain from inflaming tensions in America’s fractured political environment.

The UN must take action against the Houthis in Yemen

I write in reference to your article Yemen government and Houthi rebels board UN ship to discuss Hodeidah troop withdrawal (July 15). The Houthis need to bring their misadventure to an end. Otherwise, what can their fate possibly be? They must know they will never genuinely control Yemen, so why inflict such suffering on its people? The United Nations as a whole must insist on peace, and take action against the Houthis it deems necessary.

Happy birthday to Sheikh Mohammed, who built Dubai

I write in reference to your article Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid turns 70: A look back at his life (July 16). This article was an interesting read, offering fascinating details about the early life of the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai. It is interesting to think that had Sheikh Mohammed pursued a career in business, rather than politics, Dubai would have been deprived of a world-class leader. What would the city look like now I wonder, had Sheikh Mohammed not left his mark on it?

Over the years, Dubai has been transformed into the glittering global metropolis it is today, with its futuristic infrastructure and diverse population, because of Sheikh Mohammed’s vision, long-term thinking and international relationships. I have seen with my own eyes the growth of Dubai over the past 16 years. I would like to wish Sheikh Mohammed a happy birthday and a peaceful and healthy life. May he continue to be focused on putting Dubai on the global map.

India should focus on its people, not on space

I write in reference to your article India aborts Moon mission hour before blast off (July 16). The Indian government needs to help its people. It should lift people out of poverty, build roads and houses, provide better education and clean up rubbish in the streets. The country should not be wasting money going to the moon.
