With reference to your story Abu Dhabi's war memorial is an oasis of dignity for fallen soldiers (November 27), we would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to the martyrs' families and extend our appreciation towards this nation's armed forces. Today we recognise their eternal bravery, sacrifice and dedication. Commemoration Day is a bright chapter for the UAE to recall and memorialise with utmost pride the sacrifices and courage of the soldiers that answered the call of duty to ensure the UAE's safety, honour and progress.

Our commemoration of our heroic martyrs reflects our wise leadership’s commitment to instilling values of loyalty and belonging in our country’s youth. It also embodies solidarity among people of the UAE, ensuring the country’s commitment to pioneering progress and development is unwavering.

As the UAE marks its Commemoration Day today, we should remember to pay respect and homage to the valiant soldiers and Emirati martyrs. These UAE heroes made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives and laid the foundation stone for the safety and security of the country we live in today.

Commemoration Day teaches us to look backward at our past and forward to our future. It implies a duty on all residents to pay tribute to the country’s fallen soldiers and remember them with honour and dignity. They are a great example to the rest of the world.

Philanthropy is a sign of a healthy and happy nation

With reference to your editorial Charity is a gift that truly keeps giving (November 26), I found the article to be absolutely to the point.The philosophy  of the late Founding Father of UAE, Sheikh Zayed, was that wealth should be utilised for the benefit of the people and to develop the nation to be the very best it can be.

Today the UAE is flourishing because of the vision and charitable nature inculcated by the late president. It has been followed by the present-day leaders and residents seeing real value in giving. Generosity is a sign of a healthy, happy, prosperous nation. The UAE’s philanthropic nature is indicative of this.
