I am disappointed to know that Corniche Hospital is urging expectant mothers to find somewhere else to deliver their babies as it has run out of room (Maternity hospital has no room for more mothers, November 10). I had my second baby there and it is sad that I won't be able to return for the delivery of my third child.

These things happen sometimes. However, the hospital is run professionally and I hope a solution to this situation will be found soon. Meanwhile, this is a good opportunity to try out other new hospitals in the country.

It’s a great hospital. So it has always been very busy. The employees are all great people and professionals.

Europe must exert influence
The US should also work towards nuclear disarmament in the undeclared nuclear state of Israel, as well as in North Korea (US, Iran seek nuclear breakthrough amid domestic pressures, November 10). Both these nuclear entities increasingly threaten global security and world peace by their continued building of nuclear warheads outside the inspection of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Yet, the Israeli nuclear programme is actively accepted.
Unfortunately, the US Congress, having been seduced by decades of propaganda, has become subservient to the lobby that potentially determines US foreign policy and ultimately that of Nato and the UN Security Council. This status quo requires an urgent paradigm shift to be initiated by the EU – the only political bloc that has the power to do so.
Unless such a shift takes place, we will, as the former Russian president Mikhail Gorbachev warns, enter a new and dangerous “cold war” that could alter the global political dynamic to the detriment of three-quarters of the world – the European Union, North America and Asia.

Nurses are overworked
I refer to the news report Patients' right in new health law (November 10). I am lying in a hospital bed. I can say from my own experience and that of the Emirati woman in the bed next to mine that the health care system needs more than a discussion. A nurse told me that she was managing two wards and that three of her colleagues were looking after 33 patients.

Life changes for many in UAE
At home I loitered, here I work (November 10) is a great story. There are so many jobless people in this world who find a meaning in life in the UAE. They are lucky that the UAE gives them an opportunity to work here. It's nice to see how this country has transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.

We have to work ourselves up. I did so, and even when I had a Dh250 salary, I was grateful. There is poverty everywhere.

Don’t try to glorify Stalin
Was Stalin really "shrewd but intelligent", as he has been described by author Stephen Kotin (A taste of cold steel, November 8)? Such a nice description of Stalin is unbelievable. He was a paranoid schizophrenic who killed hundreds of thousands of people.
He was so paranoid that he did not even trust his family or his closest friends. I would recommend reading the book Gulag Archipelago by Alexander Solzhenitsyn that describes the Soviet forced labour camp system.
