A force of unity

Social media has facilitated a remarkable change in the way we interact, and sites such as Facebook and Twitter are at the forefront of that transformation. More importantly, they have united people from across the world behind causes and become a force for good.

Consider the Karajat Al Mushuntiteen Facebook page, which is increasingly being used as a guiding tool by those fleeing war in search of a new life in Europe. Its members – all refugees living in different parts of the continent – share information to enable those coming behind them to reach their destinations safely. They not just advise them on what to avoid and what to expect, but help many to find their missing relatives by posting their pictures.

This is a surprising example of how social media is helping to rekindle the old-fashioned community spirit.
