President Sheikh Mohamed congratulated Lebanon’s newly-elected President Joseph Aoun in a telephone call on Saturday.
Wam news agency reported that Sheikh Mohamed wished Mr Aoun, who was elected by parliament on Thursday, success in leading Lebanon and fulfilling the aspirations of its people for development and stability.
During the call, both leaders agreed to take steps to reopen the UAE’s embassy in Beirut.
Sheikh Mohamed expressed his hope to work together for the mutual benefit and prosperity of both nations and their peoples, thereby enhancing regional security and stability, Wam said.
Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to supporting efforts that ensure Lebanon's security and stability, and realise the aspirations of its people.
President Aoun expressed his appreciation to Sheikh Mohamed for his congratulations and warm sentiments towards Lebanon and its people.
Lebanese MPs elected Mr Aoun as head of state after more than two years of deadlock and against the backdrop of war between Israel and Hezbollah, which has destroyed large parts of the country.
