President Sheikh Mohamed receives Grand Imam of Al Azhar

Establishing a culture of co-existence and peace among different cultures was discussed during meeting

President Sheikh Mohamed received Dr Ahmed Al Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, at Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

They discussed enhancing co-operation between authorities in the UAE, Al Azhar and the Muslim Council of Elders, state news agency Wam reported.

Sheikh Mohamed praised the Grand Imam for “spreading the message of tolerance and human co-existence and promoting the culture of respect for others”.

They also talked about consolidating common human values and establishing a culture of co-existence, civilised dialogue and peace among different cultures and peoples in the world, in accordance with the Document on Human Fraternity signed by the Grand Imam and Pope Francis during the pontiff's visit to the Emirates in 2019.

One of the key developments from that document was the Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi, the interfaith complex that celebrated its first anniversary on Saadiyat Island earlier this year. The complex was built as the physical manifestation of the document.
