UAE President Sheikh Mohamed held a phone call with Syria's de facto leader Ahmad Al Shara, state news agency Wam reported on Friday.
"The call discussed ways to enhance fraternal relations between the two brotherly countries in areas of common interest," Wam said.
During the phone call, Sheikh Mohamed reiterated the UAE's firm support for Syria's independence and sovereignty.
International powers have been working to formulate new policies on Syria since Mr Al Shara, who heads the group Hayat Tahrir Al Sham, became the country’s de facto leader, replacing former president Bashar Al Assad.
The dialogue between Sheikh Mohamed and Mr Al Shara came after Saudi Arabia hosted an international meeting on Syria this week, in which western and Arab countries praised “positive steps” taken by the new administration in Damascus to preserve state institutions and consult with other countries to counter terrorism and start an inclusive political transition.
