In 2013, Heritage for Peace and Blue Shield, in conjunction with Syrian experts, included the Ghazaleh House on a ‘no strike list’ of the 20 most important archaeological sites in Aleppo.
A labourer works on the renovation of the Beit Ghazaleh house, an Ottoman-era-built residence in the Jdaydeh area of Aleppo's old town in northern Syria.
The entire house and grounds are being fully restored.
Used as a school after 1914, it was severely damaged during the Syrian conflict.
Once rebuilt, it will become a museum honouring the memory of Aleppo city.
Traditional elements, like the beautiful courtyard and carved decorative stones, are being painstakingly repaired.
The restoration project aims to restore the home to its former glory.
