Register for Terry Fox Run Dubai and support cancer research

The Terry Fox Run returns to Dubai this month after a three-year hiatus. The 5km charity run, which is held in conjunction with the Terry Fox Foundation, will be held on Saturday, February 18, at Dubai Festival City.

The non-competitive event, which is held annually around the world, supports cancer research projects. It is held in honour of Terry Fox, a Canadian who was diagnosed with cancer at 18 years, and attempted to run across Canada to raise money to find a cure for cancer. His journey became known as the Marathon of Hope, but he was unable to complete his mission, losing his battle with cancer at 22.

His legacy lives on and every year, around the world, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah, people run, walk, cycle, roller blade or use a wheelchair to cover the 5km. To date, more than $650 million (Dh2.4 billion) has been raised internationally, however all proceeds raised remain in the host country and support local research institutions.

Although there is no minimum registration fee to participate, entrants are asked to make a donation and purchase a Dubai run T-shirt. This year’s beneficiary is the Al Maktoum Foundation.

The run will start at 9am at Festival Bay, Dubai Festival City, and entertainment and snacks will be available after the run. Participants can register online at terryfoxdubai.com or on the day from 8am.
