Talise Fitness is now offering Les Mills RPM cycling classes in its state-of-the-art indoor group-cycling altitude studio, which simulates high altitude through reduced oxygen. Elite athletes, including cyclist Chris Froome and runner Mo Farah, use the technique to stress their bodies through increased endurance, speed and recovery time in preparation for events and to increase personal performance.
British former pro cyclist David Millar, who will host an Ultimate Cycling Weekend this October at Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel and Spa in Mallorca, says high-altitude training offers more bang for your buck: “By training at altitude you put your body under more stress because of the lack of oxygen and force it to work harder. Do a one-hour training session at sea level, then replicate the same session at altitude and you’ll feel how much harder your body has to work.”
Each 45 -minute cycling class in the altitude studio works the cardiovascular system in the same way as a 90-minute class at no additional altitude, and offers benefits including weight loss and increased fitness as well as enhanced blood circulation and energy levels. Classes are suitable for all fitness levels from elite athletes to beginners looking for an edge in their training.
