Landmark Wyndham Grand Manama opens in Bahrain

The latest in a series of hotels to open in the new Bahrain Bay development, the Wyndham Grand Manama occupies 19 floors of the new, 50-storey United Tower, also known as The Twisting Tower. Shenzen Muji hotel opens in China

Design-conscious travellers can now check into the first ever Muji Hotel, in Shenzen, China. Fans of the minimalist Japanese retail company are promised 79 "reasonably priced" compact rooms "in which you will sleep well, restoring both mind and body, as well as services that naturally connect you to the locale." Further hotels are planned for Beijing and Ginza, Tokyo. The hotel will open its doors on January 18.

New Road Hotel opens in east London

In Whitechapel, a historic area close to the City of London and trendy Shoreditch, an 80-room hotel is about to open in a former textile factory. Rooms, which range from small to loft-size, retain original features including exposed brickwork and large industrial windows. The hotel, which is taking bookings from next month, will feature a restaurant by chef Marco Pierre White, a fitness studio, live music, a library and a games area. Another design hotel for Copenhagen

In the Danish capital, a grand building dating from 1903, that originally housed the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music and was built in the Danish classicist style, has been converted into a 75-room design hotel, the Nobis Hotel Copenhagen. While some areas have been given a modernist makeover, key original features have been retained and restored, and finished with cutting-edge contemporary furniture. The hotel features a restaurant, sauna, hammam, gym and pool and is located in the city centre next to Tivoli gardens. Rooms range from 20 to 91 square metres and cost from 322 euros (Dh1,600) per night including taxes.
