Many hotels around the UAE have been closed or offering reduced services due to physical distancing measures introduced to curb the spread of Covid-19. However, staycations are back on the menu at the five-star Fairmont Ajman in the Northern Emirates. The hotel is reopening on Thursday, April 30, after being shut for a month. It will, however, alter its operations: sun beds will remain two metres apart, and it will only run at 30 per cent capacity in terms of guests. Located about a 30-minute drive from the Dubai International Airport, the hotel will begin accepting staycation bookings as it reopens its swimming pools and restaurants. The resort's 200-metre private beach will also welcome guests again, while beaches in Dubai are still closed off to the public. “Our guests' and employees’ safety and well-being has always been a top priority for us and following the reopening of our beachfront resort, I would like to reassure our guests that we have implemented a number of new hygiene protocols and practices," said Fairmont Ajman's general manager, Kosta Kourotsidis. "We are doing everything we can to welcome them back to a safe and clean hotel environment.” The hotel's reopening has been approved by the Ajman Tourism Development Department, and the property will operate in line with directives from the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, the management said. "All venues will be operating in accordance with governmental guidelines to continually protect both guests’ and colleagues’ health and safety." As part of such guidelines, the hotel will cap the capacity of guests at 30 per cent, from room bookings to the use of facilities and restaurants. "Furthermore, no walk-in pool and beach day-use passes are offered during this time, as the facilities are solely for the enjoyment of our in-house guests," a hotel spokesperson said. As well as reopening its pools, three food and beverage venues at Fairmont Ajman will also operate during Ramadan for limited hours, with a la carte menus only. The restaurant Spectrum will be open for breakfast between 6am and 11.30am, the pool bar Salt & Sea will open between noon and 8pm, and Turkish restaurant Kiyi will open for iftar and suhoor between 6.30pm and 2am. In-room dining is also available all day. The beach and swimming pool is also open at the Oberoi Beach Resort Ajman, hotel staff told The National, but only in-room dining is available between 7am and 11pm. The Fairmont Fujairah will remain closed until May, as told to The National. The Radisson Blu Resort Ajman, meanwhile, has opened its swimming pool and one restaurant, though it is not serving buffet meals. The rest of its facilities still remain closed.
