CLEBURNE // A quick-thinking eight-year-old girl averted a possible road tragedy in the US state of Texas. Emma Hicks was sitting in the back of a SUV when her grandmother, Jeannie Mendoza, had a seizure at the wheel. Emma climbed into the front seat and steered the car off the road, manoeuvring it around a telegraph pole. The vehicle came to a stop after hitting the side of a wooden shed. While the car, shed and a metal fence were badly damaged, nobody was hurt. Once the car came to a stop, Emma was able to climb out the window and get help. Before her heroic efforts, Emma's only driving experience was on the lap of her grandfather on his tractor and a ride on his lawnmower.
