Legendary car goes to auction

CALIFORNIA // The last remaining example of Auto Union's D-Type racer, considered one of the great racing cars of the 1930s, is being put up for auction in August this year. It is anticipated the D-Type, a 1939 Grand Prix car bearing the chassis number 19, will fetch more than £5.5 million (Dh 32.35m) when it is auctioned by Bonhams at Quail Lodge in California. The German D-Type was considered lost for more than half a century. Most believed this car was seized and then broken up by Russian engineers after the conclusion of the Second World War. It was, however, found by Paul Karassik years later, and is now offered for sale.
