The National' s fashion team flew to Beirut to produce the September 2017 fashion editorial for Luxury magazine. Naturally, we couldn't resist incorporating Gucci's cult logo tank in the shoot. The collaboration between the brand's creative director Alessandro Michele and Spanish artist Coco Capitán, showcases phrases like "Common sense is not that common" and "What are we going to do with all this future" scrawled across the luxury logo and signature green and red stripe. On the autumn/winter 2017 catwalk, the tank was worn over a bright pink blouse, with sparkly gold harem pants and floral socks. We switched the blouse for a black and white striped version by Purificación García, evoking a more rough and androgynous attitude. We also threw in some statement earrings by Beirut-based jewellery label, Vanina, whose atelier was right down the street from this rooftop in the city's artsy Gemmayze district. Since Gucci has proven to be a purveyor of mass-market fads, it's clear that the socks-and-heels micro-trend is here to stay throughout the upcoming autumn and winter seasons. But while street style stars have taken to wearing athletic socks flaunting the logos of brands like Adidas and Nike, this season's focus is on floral patterns. To replicate this look in real life, consider swapping the harem pants for slim-fitting tuxedo trousers, or black leggings affixed with stirrups. Boyish oxfords or sleek, pointed-toe heels will make the outfit office-appropriate.
