These days, perfumers tend to play it safe, creating generic, sweet blends, with catchy, peppy titles. Oftentimes, the most interesting thing about a designer scent is its intricately designed bottle. Alternative Parisian brand Ex Nihilo, however, takes the art of perfumery very seriously, eschewing mainstream trends in favour of more creative, avant-garde influences. Named Sweet Morphine, Love Shot and Devil Tender, three new fragrances debut in the brand's capsule collection, called Les Interdites. The new range centres around the theme of interdite or forbidden pleasure – hence the risqué titles of the perfumes. Sweet Morphine features a woody base, hints of vanilla and floral aroma with top notes of lilac and bergamot essence. Love shot is a scent inspired by the 1970s, marked by a combination of leathery musk and fresh raspberries. Its top notes are of bergamot, pink berries and peonies. Devil Tender is a spicy fragrance featuring aromas of grapefruit and rose water, with top notes of pink grapefruit, peach juice accord and pink pepper. The scents fall in line with the DNA of the Parisian perfumery, which celebrates desires, obsessions and fantasies.
