A six-star hotel worth at least £300 million (Dh1.44 billion) will be built in London’s Knightsbridge, with a secret tunnel to luxury store Harrods. The new hotel will be on the Pavilion Road car park site in the heart of the West London district. Designed by Hamilton Architects in the UK, it will have 120 rooms over eight floors above ground, and three basement floors. The six-star hotel will allow 2,137 square metres of retail, a spa and a bar on the top floor. The site is only a minute's walk from Harrods Department Store. The space has a disused underground pedestrian and goods tunnel linking the development with Harrods. The current freehold site is owned by Singapore-listed City Developments through its wholly owned subsidiary Beaumont Properties and it is represented in the UK by Dartmouth Capital Advisors. “This site offers CDL one of the best opportunities to develop an outstanding hotel in one of the prime locations in central London," said Say Kwek Leng Beng, executive chairman of City Developments. "We are tremendously excited by this and the value it will bring to our London portfolio and our valued clients.” The company's London subsidiary, Millennium and Copthorne Hotels, is one of the world's largest hotel chains, with more than 145 establishments globally. The group owns the Millennium Hotel on Sloane Street directly opposite the site of the new development.
