Without special attention to skin preparation, your make-up is not likely to stay put when the temperature and humidity levels outside are high. In addition to the heat, sweat and oil from your skin will add to any running of products. Tayaba Jafri offers a few tips for maintaining make-up in summer. The prep Skin is a disloyal thing but we have to work with it the best we can. Start with a good hydrating cleanser, then follow with a serum. Make sure to pat on to the skin so you push the product right into the cells rather than simply smoothing it over, and use a separate eye serum. A foundation primer - a colourless gel that helps create an even surface so the texture of skin appears smoother - will ensure that make-up stays fresher and lasts throughout the day. And of course, never forget a moisturising SPF. Foundation Most of us use heavier coverage than we actually need, especially in a humid climate. My favourite product for longevity in the heat is our oil-free, tinted moisturiser, which really gives the most natural of looks. It keeps the skin hydrated, evens out the tone and is fuss free and long wearing. For evening wear, try our Silk Crème Foundation for fuller coverage. Although oil-free, it is extremely long wearing and has light-reflecting qualities for a luminous finish. Concealers To conceal dark circles under the eyes, use an oil-based concealer such as Laura Mercier's Secret Concealer. Designed specifically for the eye area, it glides easily on to the skin and brightens it. For any discolouration, skin damage or blemishes, Secret Camouflage should be in every make-up bag. Be sparing - a little goes a long way. Powders Setting your make-up with powder extends make-up wear. It also gives make-up a natural and velvety finish. Use a powder puff and roll the powder on your skin. Avoid anything with pigment if you don't want to distort the colour of your make-up. Eyes Eye make-up has the tendency to cake, crease and even melt in heat and humidity, so make sure to apply a primer first. Our best-selling eye primer is a completely oil-free, cream-to-powder product - it stays crease-resistant when dry and lasts all day. To set, use a brightening powder under the eyes to prevent transfer and for longer wear.
