Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah marries sports presenter Sanjana Ganesan

The couple reportedly wed at a private ceremony in Goa, attended by only 20 guests

The rumours were true. Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah has announced he's married sports presenter Sanjana Ganesan.

“Steered by love, we have begun a new journey together. Today is one of the happiest days of our lives and we feel blessed to be able to share the news of our wedding and our joy with you,” Bumrah posted, along with two images from the private wedding.

Ganesan followed suit on her social media accounts.

The wedding in Goa, India was attended by only 20 family members and close friends, according to InsideSport.co, which said no one at the ceremony was allowed to carry their mobile phones.

Pre-rituals were reportedly held on Sunday and the official wedding photography is by Joseph Radhik.

Speculation had been rife about the couple's wedding when Bumrah pulled out of the ongoing test series against England, citing “personal reasons”.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also issued a statement saying Bumrah had been “released from India’s squad” and would not be playing the matches.

Little is known about the couple’s relationship before the wedding. Bumrah, 27, is a fast bowler with the Indian team, while Ganesan, 28, is a former beauty queen and a presenter for Star Sports.

'A healthy and happy married life'

Congratulations poured in from fans, as well as the couple’s friends, on social media following Bumrah’s announcement.

“Congratulations and God bless you both. Much love,” posted Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli.

“Wishing you a healthy and happy married life,” said cricketer Hardik Pandya.

The BCCI also congratulated the couple on "the start of this beautiful journey". It added: "Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness."
