The trend for nature-inspired design continues to flourish this season. At the Top Drawer design exhibition in London earlier this month, hummingbirds, seagulls, rabbits, deer, fish and foxes were spotted on screen-printed fabrics and accessories from the likes of Natural History (origin-of-style.com) and Anorak (anorakonline.co.uk).
More of the same was in evidence at last week's Objets Maison exhibition in Paris, where the current collection by the London design duo Miss Print was on show. Their take on the look is inspired specifically by the flora and fauna to be found in the urban environment, from the plants and flowers grown in balcony window boxes and the wildlife they observe in the park close to their London studio.
As with their stunning collection of wall coverings and screen-printed accessories, each design begins as a hand-drawn illustration and is strongly influenced by mid-20th century and Scandinavian design. The shades are hand screen-printed on to vegetable-dyed douppion silks or high-quality linen/cotton. Our favourite is the exquisite House Sparrow shade, which comes in six sizes and three colourways, including this glorious sunflower yellow.
