Supermodel Gigi Hadid has welcomed her first child with pop star boyfriend Zayn Malik.

The couple welcomed a daughter at the weekend, and shared the happy news on Instagram on Thursday morning.

In a black and white photograph, Malik's tattooed hand can be seen cradling the newborn's, who is wrapped in a fluffy blanket.

"Our girl joined us earth-side this weekend and she’s already changed our world. So in love," she wrote on Instagram.

Posting a similar black and white shot, Malik wrote: "Our baby girl is here, healthy and beautiful. To try put into words how I am feeling right now would be an impossible task. The love I feel for this tiny human is beyond my understanding. Grateful to know her, proud to call her mine, and thankful for the life we will have together x."

Dozens of the couple's celebrity friends were quick to send the new parents their well-wishes. "Welcome babygirl! So happy for you guys," model Hailey Bieber wrote.

Olivia Culpo wrote: "Ahhhh!!!!! HUGE congrats!!!!! I can’t wait to meet this angel."

And Emily Ratajkowski commented: "Congratulations Gigi and Zayn!!"

News of Gigi's pregnancy was first revealed in April, and the model later confirmed the news to US chat show host Jimmy Fallon, saying the couple were "extremely happy and excited".

“Obviously we wished we could have announced it on our own terms, but we’re very excited and happy and grateful for everyone’s well wishes,” she said at the time.

Hadid added that being in quarantine with her family had allowed her to feel every moment of her pregnancy. “It’s a nice silver lining to be able to be home and together and really experience it day by day,” she told Fallon.

Gigi kept much of her pregnancy private, spending lockdown alongside Malik, her mother Yolanda, and her supermodel sister Bella at the family's sprawling farm in Pennsylvania. However, she gave fans a few snippets along the way, sharing striking images from a pregnancy shoot on July 26, when she revealed she was 33 weeks along.

Her family members also shared their excitement about the family's new addition throughout the pregnancy, with supermodel sister Bella Hadid saying she "couldn't stop crying."

Gigi’s father, Palestinian-Jordanian real estate developer Mohamed Hadid, shared a touching handwritten letter to his grandchild ahead of her birth.

“Hello little grandchild, it is me, my heart as happy as can be. I wish for you the sun and moon, I wish for you a happy time,” the poem read.

“Know that grandpa’s always here, I’ll do anything, anything for you, my dear.

“When I heard you were on the way, I smiled and wiped a tear away. I cried the tear because I knew my heart would always belong to you.”

Hadid, 25, and Malik, 27, have been in an on/off relationship since 2015. They broke up for a period in 2018, but it was confirmed they were back together in December 2019.
