Grosvenor Houses's Tower Two is now open for business, which means the launch of yet more restaurants with celebrity chef associations, the first of which being Toro Toro a "Pan Latin restaurant and lounge" headed up by Richard Sandoval (who also lends his name to Maya the Mexican restaurant at Le Royal Meridien). Image courtesy Hill & Knowlton Having visited the restaurant twice already - to do a recipe photo shoot with man himself which will be featured in The National and for the media launch last night - I think it's safe to say that no expense has been spared on the decor. The restaurant spans two floors, both with marina views; black wrought iron bars divide the room, striking vases, ornaments and artwork lines the walls, the tables are dark and glossy and thanks to an open kitchen framed by orange light, the chefs can be seen working away. It's nothing if not sleek and stylised; the fact that the bathroom doors were lined with faux fur did come as something of a not entirely welcome surprise, though. The menu apparently includes dishes from Brazil, Peru, Argentina and Colombia, presented in the mode of the moment: small sharing plates, with meat being served churrascaria style (waiters moving around the restaurant slicing meat from skewers on to plates a la minute). We only managed to try a couple of canapes last night (a very nice roasted vegetable and goat's cheese pizza-type affair and a little bowl of squid and scallop stew) so no views on the food just yet - a review will follow once the restaurant has been up and running for a couple of months. In the meantime, has anyone visited yet? If not are you planning to? Will Toro Toro replace the Hilton's Pachanga as the churrasco restaurant of choice? Thoughts please
