Sure, it’s a little hot out right now to catch one of Abu Dhabi’s rejuvenating sunsets. But I promise you, with the way the light dances and streams through Asia de Cuba at that magic time, it’s pretty much the next best thing.
The popular chino-Latino restaurant’s lounge has just launched its Hemingway Hour, which is really three hours, from 5pm-8pm Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. For Dh145, the menu offers one bar bite and two cocktails, from a selection favoured by the famous American author, who lived in Cuba for almost 20 years.
On offer is a delicious beet pica tartare, which can best be described as a beet taco and is much better than it sounds. There is black bean and plantain empanada, the chef’s signature chicken chicharones, as well as a half-portion of rich shrimp churros and edamame. And take a few minutes to chat to the barman about their thoughtful drink garnishes — think mint and orange slices, dehydrated in a basement laboratory.

The National was the guest of the venue.
This article has been amended to reflect that Hemingway Hour is offered Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. It previously stated it was Sunday through Thursday.
