Grapefruit juice, ginger juice, lemon juice, maple syrup, orange juice, and pomegranate juice are some of the ingredients found in a healthy “immunity shot” – a drink recently introduced by Amongst Few cafe. The Dubai venue, which is all about healthy living, already had turmeric and ginger shots on its menu, but created the immunity-boosting concoction in light of the spread of coronavirus. The cafe has been, and will continue, to distribute these shots on a complimentary basis with every breakfast, lunch and dinner main in the month of March. But on Monday, March 16, it decided to take things up a notch by asking other UAE establishments to join the “community immunity” challenge. “In a bid to keep our community immunity at an all-time high, we challenge some of our favourite cafes in the UAE to join us in nourishing our community by offering a complimentary immunity boosting shot for their customers. Stay strong, stay immune, stick together…” the post on Instagram read. It was followed by a long list of restaurants and cafes that were tagged to take part in the challenge. “Healthy eating and boosting immunity are things we have always been passionate about. But this situation calls for everyone to stick together and do what we can to keep each other healthy,” says Amongst Few cafe co-founder Flo Moser. “At the end of the day, we are a community-driven cafe and we wanted to reach out to others. We don’t consider them competition - we are all in this together.” The initiative was widely hailed on social media, racking up over 700 likes within 24 hours. “Love this initiative. Well done guys, and all my faves tagged in one amazing post,” read one such comment while another called for everyone to step it up. It looks like local cafes and restaurants are ready to take on the challenge indeed, with around 18 venues having responded positively, claiming to start distributing complimentary immunity-boosting shots to customers soon. Some of the establishments that are participating in the challenge are: Meanwhile, Amongst Few cafe has posted the recipe for its immunity shot on its Insta Stories for other establishments, or customers who want to create it at home – but understands if different venues want to create their own version of the drink.
