One month after the pumpkin spice latte community of the UAE was shook to its core by the news that Starbucks's popular seasonal drink would not be available in the region this year, the beverage is back on the menu. For a limited time only, until Halloween on Saturday, October 31 (according to the Bay Avenue, Business Bay branch), you can snap up a pumpkin spice latte, hot or iced, at one of a select number of branches across the emirates. Made with espresso, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, steamed milk, whipped cream and, of course, pumpkin, the drink has become synonymous with the start of autumn and is the biggest-selling seasonal drink in Starbucks history, with over 420 million, and counting, cups sold since its launch in 2003. When the news broke in the UAE that the pumpkin spice latte would not be available this year, the chain offered up its salted caramel latte and iced salted caramel latte as a seasonal swap. However, fans of the drink were not impressed with the substitute, taking to social media to gripe: “Why won’t you give us pumpkin spice lattes this year in Middle East! You know that we wait for it yearly!” Following the news that the drink would not be available this year, many cafes across the emirates created their own versions. And The National even showed you how to make your own version at home. But while fans mourned its absence from the autumn Starbucks menu, non-fans of the beverage, which was dubbed by Vox as: "an unctuous, pungent, saccharine brown liquid, equal parts dairy and diabetes, served in paper cups and guzzled down by the litre", cite the drink's 380-calorie content as a reason to swerve the cream-topped favourite. However, there can be no denying the drink has become a cultural phenomenon, so don’t forget to hashtag all Instagram posts of you clutching your bev-of-choice with #PSL. Pumpkin spice lattes are available at select branches across the UAE until Saturday, October 31.
