If even the mention of KitKat evokes fond childhood memories (or more recent adult memories – we’re not here to judge), then this is pretty exciting news. The much-loved chocolate bar has a new flavour for Ramadan, designed especially for the region ... introducing the Arabic coffee-flavoured KitKat. Inspired by gahwa, as coffee is referred to regionally, the crispy wafer fingers blend milk chocolate, roasted blond Arabica coffee beans and the aroma of cardamom – a combination designed to "evoke comforting traditional senses that merge nostalgia with modernity". “We understand the cultural value of coffee time in the region and are always listening to KitKat enthusiasts, many of whom have been telling us on social media platforms that they love the coupling of Arabic coffee with chocolate,” said Emile Douaihy, Nestle business executive officer, confectionery, biscuits and snacks for the Mena region. “Ramadan this year will be a bit unusual as we practise social distancing to protect ourselves and loved ones. We hope that the KitKat Arabic coffee puts a smile in consumers’ after-iftar breaks.” Traditional Arabic coffee is an important element of hospitality in the region; so much so it was inscribed on to Unesco's intangible cultural heritage list in 2015. The new flavour is currently available only in the region. Customers can find it in shops in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain and Jordan. KitKat has launched several new flavours over the years, including tiramisu, strawberry cheesecake and creme brulee.
