Every day I receive several food-related press releases, with information about new launches, menus and events. So, I thought I would start to round up the various tidbits of information that find their way into my inbox on here First, the planned opening of a second Rivington Grill restaurant in Dubai, this time in Madinat Jumeirah and scheduled for spring 2012 (the exact date is as yet unconfirmed). According to the press release, the restaurant will be styled in the same way as the original in Souk Al Bahar - wooden panelling, white-washed walls, modern artwork - complete with mezzanine floor and outdoor terrace. The menu will, of course, have a strictly British focus, serving all the established favourites - fishcakes, the Rivington burger, sticky toffee pudding etc. Now, I'm a fan of the Rivington Grill: it offers laid-back dining, fresh tasty food and good service, but I'm just not entirely convinced of the need for a duplicate restaurant in the Madinat. Is it borderline lazy to roll out the same concept all over again? Would that coveted space be better used for an all-new, original venture? Or, on the other hand, given the popularity of the existing restaurant, is this a savvy move by the Jumeirah group and one that is guaranteed to be a success? Thoughts please.
