There's plenty going on in the UAE dining scene at the moment. Just in time for the weekend, you'll find a quick roundup of various events and promotions here. In the second week of September, BurJuman will be launching Treat, a food festival featuring masterclasses, workshops and competitions. The event starts on the September 11 and will culminate with the BurJuman Junior Chef of the Year Award, a five day competition held from September 18 to 22. During the event, chefs from various Dubai hotels will be giving daily demonstrations and audience members will be selected at random to take part in interactive masterclasses, with prizes for the best contribution. There will also be workshops offering advice on table setting and dining etiquette and on September 17, the International Centre for Culinary Arts Dubai will provide tips for aspiring chefs. It is five years since Michelin-starred chef Gary Rhodes opened Rhodes Mezzanine in Dubai’s Grosvenor House and introduced UAE residents to his much talked-about white tomato soup. To celebrate, from September 4 to 8 the restaurant will be serving a specially devised anniversary menu featuring favourite dishes from the last five years, including globe artichokes with baby leeks, warm poached egg and hollandaise sauce (2008) and salmon with scallops and ginger butter sauce (2010). The anniversary dinner costs Dh500 per person, for reservations call 04 317 6000. Titanic by Marco Pierre White at the Melia Dubai has recently launched a new brunch and it has chosen to honour the British Queen Elizabeth's sixty years on the throne while doing so. The Diamond Jubilee themed luncheon is going to be held every Friday from 11am-3pm and will feature a British-themed a la carte menu, sharing plates, a carving trolley and slightly incongruously, plenty of 1980s and 1990s music. For reservations call 04 38 68 1111 or email melia.dubai@melia.com. Lastly, if you want to eat out without feeling guilty, then note that every Wednesday from September 5 Fountain restaurant in the Mövenpick Hotel & Apartments Bur Dubai will be serving a special “Food for Life” menu. Based on the idea that healthy, nutritious food can still taste good, for Dh120 per person (including soft drinks) you can tuck into the likes of chilli con carne (made with lean beef and pictured above), salmon with red cabbage and citrus fruit and udon noodles with chicken with a clear conscience. For reservations call 04 310 4320.
