Acclaimed British chef Michael Caines will open a new restaurant — his first outside the UK — at Jumeirah at Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi this September.
Caines, age 46, is a well-known chef in the UK and makes regular appearances on British television. He’s been the head chef at the two Michelin-starred Gidleigh Park restaurant in Devon since 1994 and has since opened a handful of restaurants around the UK. Caines lost an arm in a car accident just two months after he was appointed head chef at Gidleigh Park in 1994. Two weeks later, he was back at work finding his new normal in the kitchen.
Caines has been in the capital before as a guest chef during Gourmet Abu Dhabi, where he mentioned his desire to open a restaurant in the city. His new restaurant in the capital will be called Pearls by Michael Caines, a clear nod to the history of pearl-diving in the Emirates.

Freezer tips
- Always make sure food is completely cool before freezing.
- If you’re cooking in large batches, divide into either family-sized or individual portions to freeze.
- Ensure the food is well wrapped in foil or cling film. Even better, store in fully sealable, labelled containers or zip-lock freezer bags.
- The easiest and safest way to defrost items such as the stews and sauces mentioned is to do so in the fridge for several hours or overnight.
